This,Aurora's and Jasmine

This, Belle's, and Aurora. I cann't believe people honestly think that Mulan PRETENDING to be a guy makes her a tomboy. REALLY? A tomboy wouldn't be bad at acting like a guy like she was. she was so bad she kept almost giving herself away. Merida is the tomboy. and she's nothing like Mulan. Merida acts like a boy with girl parts. Mulan acts like a girl. She likes her makeover's results, she doesn't mind marrying without love, and she looks anguished when she has to cut her hair.

Reading makes you intelligent? Uh, aren't many of the people who think this of Belle the same ones who call fans of Twilight and 50 Shades dumb? -_- anyone can read. she isn't even reading complex literature, foreign language books, or the latest in scientific studies. she just reads fairy tales. if she were here today you know she'd be in love with the Twilight Saga. She reads the equivalent to Danielle Steele and Harlequin books (no offense, Steel, Harlequin, and Twifans). She may be smart but it not because she reads, nor does it make her the sole "intelligent" one.

You don't have to like Aurora but it's silly to say she has no personality. All of them do, some just more than others. We know Aurora is shy around strangers, is indecisive, is romantic, and tries to do the right thing even if she doesn't want to. That is a personality.

Ariel does behave bratty. she constantly defies her dad and talks back to him. And she's spoiled, which adds to the brat part.

I almost never hear anyone call Jasmine rude but she can be.

All of them kind of, but this is the one, that got me to dislike her... a lot..
Just because she likes to read to evade reality, she is smart? Don´t think so.
She does a lot of stupid things and only a few of her actions could be called intelligent.
Belle is just an absolutely normal girl, and i think i would still like her, if her fans would see her that way and not glorifying her, just because she is seen reading much and other DP´s aren´t ( which does not mean, that the others don´t like reading as much as Belle does, we just never see it.).

This one is beyond ridiculous. She likes her makeover when she looks in the mirror, looked like she was struggling to go through her hair cut, and just because she is outspoken and likes chess does not mean she is a tomboy. She is not good at acting like a man, or a typical Chinese woman. You can be neither a girly girl or a Tom boy

I agree with Safira, some years ago that's why I wasn't really a Belle fan.
also the Mulan,Tia and Ariel ones aren't true. I kinda agree with Aurora's she really hasn't got a personality, maybe if she had more screen time...

I cannot believe how many people actually believe that. Just because they love Ariel they are so biased and blindly refuse to believe that this was an extremely stupid decision.

On Belle: She doesn't necessarily only read fairytales. That was her favorite, wouldn't your favorite book be one with adventure and not, say, a history book? And it isn't necessarily a fairytale- you take out the disguise and you have Harry Potter, replace the magic with technology and you have The Hunger Games. Romance=/=fairytale.
On Ariel: Selling her soul WAS brave. Reckless, lacking foresight, yes. But that doesn't mean it wasn't brave. She knew all the consequences.
I also agree with Aurora, the other Ariel one, and Tiana (in as much as I find them misconceptions.)
On Mulan being a tomboy:Not at all. She's every bit as uncomfortable as Ping-the-warrior as she is Mulan-the-bride. It is only when she stops trying to be someone else and is Mulan-the-warrior that she succeeds. She is neither girly nor a tomboy.
However, I would disagree with people saying she was unhappy cutting her hair as a reason she's not a tomboy. I always though she struggled so much because she saw that as sort of "the point of no return." Once she cut her hair, there was no backing out.

and how is Cinderella being graceful a misconception? I noticed the fanpopper who made that isn't talking.

I think she's a lot nicer than many people give her credit for; she has every right to be annoyed at the situation and if she wasn't outspoken then no one in the movie would listen to her (heck, no one listens to her anyway).

Also "Cinderella is a doormat", her stepfamily would make her life even worse if she spoke up or disobeyed.

I object to the Belle one...I think the actual misconception is that she is considered smart just because she reads (BTW, statistically people who read are more intelligent...the question is though, if they are more intelligent because the read or if intelligent people just read more often...though reading is good for your language because you learn and start using words not everyone necessarily uses, as Belle proofs). Either way, the main reason I personally consider Belle as the third smartest DP (after Mulan and Rapunzel) is because she "outsmarts" other people... for example Gaston, whom she leads to the door, Cocksworth by convincing him to show her the castle.
Plus, I got the impression that she reads more or less everything she gets her hand on....fairy tales are simply her favourites.

She may not have as much personality as say, Mulan or Rapunzel, but she does have some.

People complain she stops being playfull. She doesn't lose her personality or become boring. But suddenly many changes and odds comes to her life. She falls for the enemy and she can't be with him, her tribe is in danger, her love is about to die and a war between english and natives is about to break out. Then her loves is wounded and has to go back to England. Well, I don't think you would jump of cliffs if you were in her shoes.
Belle... My second choise.Many people read books, that doesn't make them intelligent.
Jasmine is not a bitch because she doesn't want to marry the arrogant princes or because she dislikes Aladdin's lies.
Mulan is a tomboy but because she was born in times where women had to be all quite and such things but if she lived in our times, she would be just like other girls.
Aurora has personality...a weak one.... but still personality.
Tiana is not a competely bore but not interesting. She is just ok.
Cindy is gracefull.
Not sure abour Ariel giving her voice to Ursula.
I don't know who says such things for Merida but I disagree.

This kinda goes for Snow White too. I don't think anybody considers Jasmine a bitch here (or maybe I haven't been here long). Mulan does possess some masculine traits of her own but that doesn't necessarily make her a tomboy. Yeah, Ariel's decision is brave but a bit risky, it might be a little stupid but eh.

Some are misconceptions but they're not as common as this one.

I guess I got the idea of my option from reading Swanpride's article. Heh...

About Aurora: Of course she has personality! She's dreamy, shy, flirtatious, sensitive, gentle, sweet e.t.c.
About Ariel being a brat: I agree with that, Ariel IS a brat, but I still love her.
About Ariel's decision of selling her voice to Ursula: Well, that wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do...
About Belle: What Swanpride said, reading DOES make people smarter and there aren't many people that consider Belle intelligent JUST because she reads. I think she's very clever, but for the reasons Swanpride stated. And it's Disney, the heroines will read fairytales because little children are watching the movie and so they can relate to them.
About Mulan: She's NOT a tomboy! Like rythmicmagic said, Mulan is generally awkward, not only as bride but as a warrior too. And she didn't like pretending to be a man, she didn't even do it well.
About Jasmine: I don't think she's a bitch, but she can be quite rude sometimes. She has just attitude.
About Merida: I agree, Merida isn't that harsh like everyobody thinks.
About Cinderella: Cinderella IS graceful. This is obvious and I have never heard someone saying the opposite.
About Tiana: She's not at all boring, I find her very interesting.
About Pocahontas: She doesn't lose her personality! She had to deal with a WAR, what do you expect, should she jump of cliffs and sing happy songs?

But it's not her fault at all and peoples aren't only judge her, she is just lack of screentimes.
