If it's enough of a reason to make someone dislike a DP, then that's enough of a reason period. My reasoning doesn't have to be the same as theirs, but respecting others' opinions is a big part of being a mature person.

What Uploaded said. having a character not live up to their hype but still get shoved in your face is annoying and makes the character leave a bad taste in your mouth.

I think it's a stupid and pathetic reason, honestly.

Tbh I do hate Elsa for this but I also have other reasons. But this is the main reason.

On one hand it is kind of a silly reason, on the other the over marketing (in the case of Frozen) mixed with a handful of annoying fans an the possibility of said princess outshine g and overshadowing all the others can be really really annoying and off putting.

Depends on the kind of hype...for example, I am not particularly bothered it a movie I consider more okay is beloved, but it bothers me when it is claimed to be something which clearly isn't. My resentment of Frozen has little to do with the fact that I consider the movies as "okay", and a lot with it to be hailed as some sort of feminist achievement (which it isn't), paired with the fact that the movie acts ashamed of the movies I love so much.

So the popularity in itself is not the reason I am not into a movie, but if a movie which I don't particular like is shoved in my face all the time, it might amplify my negative feelings for it, especially when they are about a touchy subject.

It's basically never a reason which works on its own, one shouldn't dislike something just because it is popular, but I can understand why it impacts the perception of a movie in a negative or positive way.

Agree with Mongoose. And some people just like to hate on whatever's mainstream, that's very annoying.
