Eeh didn't word this right but I meant like how John Smith, Aladdin and Naveen are characters with no redeemable qualities to some people because one is a bigot, one is a compulsive liar and the other one a player who gets what he wants from women. When as for say Ariel, Jasmine and Pocahontas are all good natured even when they rebel or are just as human as the Princes. It's more excusable for the Princess to have an attitude because that means she doesn't take shit but when the Prince is being a jerk, he's not considered anything more than a first class a-hole. Probably didn't make sense but hopefully someone understood.

Eh, it depends on the princess/prince. It also depends on who do you ask and what do they value in characters. Of course nowadays it's wrong to have female characters with flaws and problems, because then the radfems will be screaming "misogyny" at the theater.

^^^ Yeah. I kind of see it the way Scarletunicorn said. Back in the day, the prince could have as many flaws as the Disney Princess. But now, it's really acceptable for the males to be portrayed as either as-holes/jerks or complete, hypocritical idiots. And the Disney princesses themselves have been "downgraded" to just flimsy caricatures with only one or two identifiable quirks, so everyone can "relate to them." Except, I don't, of course.

It is hard to tell. In the example you give with Charming the movie is from Cinderella's perspective so we don't get any of his personality. In Aladdin, we get a lot of Jasmine's personality so we can sympathize with her.

I've seen various situations. I must admit that princes in general are more often portrayed as flawed than princesses.

I don't think I judge someone more or less harsly because of gender. For example, I dislike Meg and Shang for similiar reasons. And Merida and the Beast too. I dislike Naveen's womanizing attitude but I also dislike Esmeralda's dancing scene and Chel is my least favorite CAMH.

Probably I am somewhat too tolerant to Flynn Ryder. Because I dislike Tulio and Chel who have share some Flynn's flaws. But I think that overally Flynn is more virtuous and heroic character than these two.

I think charming is more criticized since he didn't go for Cinderella himself, he sent others to do his work.

frankly, the princes generally do worse shit than the princesses do. no princess lies nearly enough and as inconsiderately as Aladdin does. John absolutely is a bigot- and he MURDERED people! Naveen...is there a princess as lazy and spoiled as him? No.

To be honest, I never really found any of harsh judgement towards any of the Princes. I even feel like some of princesses are judged more harshly and people tend to put double standards towards them.
