Mexican culture is beautiful and complex and hollywood takes it for granted. Moana was just the theme park version of Polynesian Islands just like Frozen.

Frozen hardly delved into the culture. Moana explored it just a bit, mainly in the opening song, although the mythology is a pretty important part of the story. Coco probably did the best job because it really explored the ideas behind the culture.

I feel like culture/Mexican tradition was the most prominent theme in Coco versus the others.

imo moana did it in a more natural way.
frozen was just generic scandinavia, coco did plot-relevant stuff but also a lot of nods to mexican culture that felt gimmicky (e.g. the frida kahlo gags)

^^^

They completely wasted a chance to show how rich Norwegian culture is. But they seemed to put a lot more effort into Moana, which did feel more natural, with the voice actors, music style, folk lore, etc.

And of course, you totally passed on Coco and voted despite not seeing it. And you accuse people of doing the same thing!

Moana is just a mashup of different cultures which I don't find to be authentic at all. Coco actually reflects Mexico.

i didn't know it was even supposed to be a specific nordic country. that's how basic the setting is.

Where did I say anything about people not watching these? I'm voting because I've seen the other two a million times.

But wrt Frozen, I think it's only unfamiliar to American audiences because the most Scandinavian stuff we ever see is generic blonde Swedes in braids and jumpers. Once I looked into Norway it definitely looks distinctive from Finland or Sweden with the town name (Arendal is a place), the fjords, rosemaling, vaguely Protestant religion, and food mentions. But it is rather generically Norwegian admittedly. Actual Norwegians complained that it didn't really resemble their culture (whereas Polynesians seem to feel quite differently about Moana.)
