You have two Rapunzels?

Rapunzel because she is the most recent one. && since tPatF did not do so well && Tiana was not as loved as the other princesses, they would want to make her really special && lovable. So they would not have a repeat of what had just happened. && since the other Princesses are so loved they would want to make the new princess very special so she would gain fans as well.

That makes zero sense, you could say that about any of the princesses since they were all new at some point.

you can not say the same with the PatF comment since not all the princess movies did as bad as that one. the whole point was they would not want a repeat of that happening again.

um...the entire point is why all movies are made...to make money.
&& they would want her to be very popular && successful to make money from her merchandise.

so they would not make a princess have a certain likeable personality to make people like her. so they can have a successful movie? that makes no sense.

They wanted to make her modern, heroic, independent, and different from the princesses that came before her.

But not because they wanted to, because they had to because of the controversy.

@KataraLover it's a movie about black people in a franchise where it was predominately white. There's gonna be controversy if you don't do it right. They had to change her name, think how much they probably had to focus on for her personality.

I picked Belle though because I don't really know. It just seemed like the makers put a lot of effort into this film.

@Pink_Love. No. It's not AFTER the movie. I asked which princess you think the animators/directors/developers etc put the most thought &importance into her personality AS THEY WERE DEVELOPING HER. BEFORE THE MOVIE CAME OUT.

Or Cinderella, she needed to be kind and hopeful through all her abuse.

Ariel, because she needs to have a strong personality... you can tell they put a lot of thought into her character.

I choose Tiana just because her fairy-tale gave Disney a completely blank slate with which to create a character. For example, Ariel *had* to be curious in order for the telling of the Little Mermaid to happen, at all; Belle *had* to be nosy, or else she would have never found the rose; Mulan *had* to be smart in order to save China. Tiana was the only one for which the creators were given too much free room to create. It's because of this that I think the most thought was put into her character.

Also Snow White.

@KataraLover Because Tiana was the first black princess, a lot of people wanted to "ensure" that the movie wasn't what they perceived as "racist" - which lead to a cople of changes during the development. Originally, Tiana was supposed to be named Maddy and to be a chambermaid in Charlotte's home, but because of the protests, the developer had to change both. There was a lot of controversy if the prince should be black or white (somehow both was perceived as racist), the same for the villain, so Naveen and facilier got those not quite black not quite white skin colors. Oh, and then there were the ones who protested that Tiana shouldn't look like a white person who got painted black, but she shouldn't look stereotypical black either (you know, big lips aso). Keep in mind, all that in the development phase.

^All of that is ridiculous. Everyone's so obsessed with political correctness... I think PaTF would have been so much better if Disney was left alone to "do their thing". As far as the controversy over the name "Maddy" goes, I think that had something to do with sounding like a derogatory name for a black person, but I still can't think of what that would be... If I were the one making PaTF, I would have done whatever I wanted b/c you just can't please everyone. No matter what, some people are going to be left unhappy.

They want money, just like any respectable business, so in order to gain that profit they had to make sure they pleased not only feminists but the minorities. The controversy over Maddy was that it sounded like a "low-class" name, which is frankly insulting to anyone with that name.

^ yeah, and I also read that some people thought Maddy sounded like "Mammy", one of the house slaves in Gone With the Wind...although I think that is stupid. The names don't remind me of each other. I happen to like the name Maddy. I have a friend named Maddy, her full name is Madison.
