Belle Boyd was a Confederate spy. I may not agree with her political views but she believed in them- and acted on them. Gotta love a woman who will lay her life on the line for what she believes in.

Someone that really sticks out to me is Joan of Arc, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years' War - among many other important things. Not to mention she was very young when she did this like in her teens. I think she is one of the most amazing, strong, brave women to have ever lived. :)

Here's my list:

Hatchepsut (Her rule marked the longest peaceful era in Egyptian history. Why do men always want to go to war?)
Elizabeth I (Self-explanatory)
Marie Curie (Self-explanatory)
link (Performance artist and activist who's unafraid of speaking her mind.)
link (Avid human rights activist, rightful leader of Burma, currently under house arrest, and still not giving up. She made number one on my "Top Ten Human Rights Champions" list.)
link (Fought for what she believed in through her powerful, powerful writing, and through her activism in Israel/Palestine. Encouraged understanding and equality and recognition of everyone as a human being more than a nationality, religion, or race.)

Wow! Where do I start? Let's see:

Susan Brownell Anthony-women's suffrage movement, mother of the 19th Amendment, abolitionist.
Josephine Baker- African-American international star, civil rights activist, World War II heroine.
Amelia Earhart- Aviatrix
Alice Paul- The woman who rescued the woman suffrage movement and made sure women got the vote.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton-First president of the National Woman's Suffrage Association.
Annie Sullivan- Helen Keller's teacher.
Harriet Tubman- Underground Railroad conductor, Army scout, African-American suffragette.
Helen Keller--deaf and blind educator who fought for the rights of people with vision and hearing problems.

And the list goes on and on...

Off of the top of my head: Amelia Earhart and Rosalind Franklin (she SO got there before Watson and Crick).
