You know, it's difficult to say. We don't know anything about Riddle Sr. except he was a Muggle who came from an apparently well-to-do family. We know that Merope Gaunt, who was emotionally crippled from the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father and brother, used a love potion to bring Riddle Sr. to her. That's a horrible thing to do to someone, and an even more horrible circumstance under which to conceive a child. Riddle Sr. left once Merope stopped giving him the potion; imagine how Riddle Jr. might have been affected if she hadn't and Sr. had stayed, and Jr. later discovered the ugly truth.

I don't think he would have become Lord Voldemort. If he'd had a normal family life, I don't think he'd have hated muggles as much as he did. I think growing up, he'd have noticed how not nice the wizarding side of his family was. Specially since I doubt they would have approved of him since he was a half blood. I think the combination of experiencing and knowing about love and the balance of seeing the good and bad from both muggle and wizarding worlds, would ensure that Tom jr's attitude towards muggles and blood purity would be very different (if not totally opposite) to the ones he held
