what do you mean by evil?

that quite a wide scopping question, whst do you mean by misunderstood (oh god, the fundimental questions of phylosophy!!! questioning everyhing)

HAHA it is philosophy, tell me what yor philosophy is on evil is, do you think it is misunderstood or what?

i do, many people judge people for their actions, "evil people do evil things"
just because one acts evil dosent necessarily mean they are full of evil deeds, you have to come to understand the reasons behind the acts.

people do evil things for their own reasons, which would be interesting to explore... but its still evil, it doesnt excuse what they did, does it?

Evil isn't necessarily "misunderstood" more so than it is not absolutely defined or comprehended. In my opinion.

well i believe evil is more of a force not a trait.there can be evil actions, evil words and people who do evil things. I thinks actions can be evil but not people

It is told that Buddha, going out to look on life, was greatly daunted by death. "They all eat one another!" he cried, and called it evil. This process I examined, changed the verb, said, "They all feed one another," and called it good.

Most people we define as 'evil' genuinely believe they are doing the right thing. Can someone who thinks they are doing the right thing still be evil? The quest to do good is what seperates those who are 'evil' from those who aren't. If 'evil' people are trying to do good, are they really evil, or just a bit misguided?

I don't think 'evil' itself is misunderstood, but more the actions that evil undertakes, or the definition of evil itself.

I punch someone or I kiss someone, he loves one and he hates one, so one of my actions is evil and one of my actions good. Thats what humans made up so we don't misunderstand it. It is not important whether and evil person thinks he is doing evil or good, we chose the word evil for things that are evil, that's all(hope you get this one).

There is no point in TRYING to understand evil. If someone kills an innocent person, it doesn't matter why. They should be killed, or locked up forever.

A crime is only criminal based on motives if we are going into morals. Is it "evil" to rob a bank if the money is to pay for my daughters operation to remove cancer. Was Robin hood evil. You need both views before you can judge.
