A Secret is Discovered in the River – Resurrection – Season 2 Episode 3 – “Multiple”
Last week left us with another returned disappearing like Caleb. What does this mean and where are these returned disappearing to?  Agent Bellamy has a tough task in front of him as he tries to make figure out this mystery and also make sense of his own situation, now that is has been revealed that he is now one of the returned as well.
This week begins by the water and Tom is helping some of the returned acknowledge the miracle of their return through a baptism ceremony in the river. Barbara is the first to be baptized and as she walks out of the water she steps on something, a skull.
Agent Bellamy is suffering from nightmares about his death and return. At the river, the police have begun investigating the discovered bones. Fred talks with Tom who tells him he resigned from the church. He tells Fred he was baptizing the returned. Fred sees Barbara when he is approached by his deputy who informs him that they may be dealing with up to half a dozen bodies. He tells his deputy to call Maggie and see if she can assist the coroner with piecing the bones back together.
Bellamy and Maggie are eating breakfast at the diner and they are trying to uncover the mystery of why some of the returned have disappeared.  Maggie wonders if you disappear that is it, but if you die and leave a body behind you come back. Maggie gets the call about the bones and she lets Bellamy in on what is going on. She heads to the investigation.
The Langstons are having breakfast when Lucy tells Jacob they are going apple picking.  Jacob doesn’t want to go.  Margaret asks why Jacob is not in school. Lucy says it is not time, but Jacob says he is ready to go to school.
Bellamy pays Tom a visit.  Tom is trying to turn a new building into his new church. Bellamy confides in Tom about him being a returned. Bellamy talks to Tom about his childhood.  Bellamy also tells Tom about his nightmares. He wonders if the dream means there are two of him out there, one dead and one alive.  Tom says yes it does. Bellamy realizes he must have a body out there. Tom reminds him of how important it was for Rachel to see her body and grieve. Tom tells him that in order for him to grow he has to put his past to rest. Perhaps, Bellamy needs to find his body to be able to move forward.
Back at the river Maggie is assisting with the bones. She has figured out that there is six bodies and they were all men. She has also figured out the bones were dug up from somewhere and then thrown in the river. Fred also tells Maggie about her mother being baptized in the river that morning.
Bellamy gets a call from the government woman and leaves her a message about a new returned. After he hangs up he gets a call from Maggie who thinks the bones may be the returned. She explains that after examining the bones, they are not six separate bodies, they are three copies of the same body. This means that Jacob was not the first, the phenomenon has happened before. Bellamy tells her to hide the remains in her clinic and not to let the coroner take them. While on the phone with Maggie he gets a text from the government woman telling him where to bring the returned one.
Carl shows up at his home and wakes up his brother, Mikey.  It doesn’t seem like Carl is pleased to be dealing with Mikey as we watch him call Carl names and make fun of him.
Margaret is at the clinic for her follow-up appointment when Maggie brings in the bones. After the appointment Margaret asks Maggie about her relationship with her father. She tells Maggie that he is right not to trust the returned. She explains that they shouldn’t be here, that they have done nothing to earn second chances and her father is the only one with the courage to stand up and say that.
The Langstons visit the school to discuss enrolling Jacob in school. Lucy wants to ensure that Jacob will be safe. Fred visits the clinic to talk to Maggie about the bones. He has to figure out who dumped these bones and why. Maggie tells her father that she knows today was not easy for him, being at the river. He admits it stirred up things he was trying to forget.
At the meeting location the government guy shows up to collect the returned one from Bellamy. When he gets there he finds an empty car. When he checks it out Bellamy shows up behind the man with a gun and tells the man he is going to take him to the government woman.
The man does as he is told and takes Bellamy to her. He asks her where his body is because he wants to see it. She tells him that is not possible. She tells him that he needs to do his job as that is why she let him come back to Arcadia. She is willing to let him have access to his body if he brings them back something solid.
Fred heads back out to the river and checks out a bridge that could be a possible drop point for the bones. There he finds a piece of cloth attached to the bridge. Back at Carl’s house he is cooking steaks for him and Mikey. His brother is not pleased with how Carl prepared the steaks. He yells at Carl and mentions the little problem he took care of – their mom and dad. Mikey continues his assault on Carl who finally snaps and shoots Mikey.
Back at the clinic Bellamy shows up to check out Maggie’s progress with the bones. She does think the people were murdered based off what she is finding through the bones. He asks if she has notified her dad about the development and she goes to call him. When she leaves, Bellamy contacts the government lady and lets her know he has something for her.
Lucy is preparing to go to bed when she sees Henry looking over the factory blueprints. Henry tells Luci that he remembers the routine they used to have before Jacob died. Lucy tells him that he punished himself by giving up his work at the factory and Henry wonders if it is time to stop punishing himself. Luci supports him and thinks he should go for it.
Fred checks out the factory because the cloth he found on the bridge came from the cloth bags they used to use at the factory. He receives a voice mail from Maggie and she tells him she believes they were all killed. As Fred listens to the message he comes across another bone in the factory.
Maggie continues to examine the bones when she hears a vehicle come screeching up to the clinic, it is her father. She explains that they have bone powder that could lead to helping them identify the bodies. As they are talking they hear a noise. They go to check it out.
In the woods, they have brought Bellamy’s body for him to see. He opens the bag and is shocked to see himself lying in the bag. Tom and Bellamy put a cross in the ground to represent Bellamy’s grave. Meanwhile, Fred holds Maggie back as men pack up and take the bones. Carl is burying the body of his brother in the basement when he hears his brother upstairs. It seems his bother has returned and there will be no escape from him for Carl.
This episode has left us with some things to think about. How will Bellamy move forward now that he has seen his body?  What will happen to the investigation of the bones now that the government has taken them?  Be sure to tune in next week to see if we get any answers and what may be next for Arcadia.
