Not everybody doubted Sev. Many of his Фаны (myself included) knew right from the start that there was еще to his story than met the eye- whether he be picking on the trio, trying to turn Sirius over to the dementors, или killing Dumbledore.

It wasn't fair the way Severus treated Harry. Harry wasn't James and Harry wouldn't have done the things James had done. Severus taking his anger, frustration, and hurt at James out on Harry wasn't right. It was petty, childish, and unprofessional.

Harry hated Severus because of the way Severus treated him (and because he's naturally wary and judgemental of Slytherins in general). Besides, Harry hardly knew anything about what happened between Severus and James. It wasn't until book five that he found out how truly vile his father was and could be.

I agree bri-marie, many of us never doubted him for a moment. I think we knew from the begining that he was a complicated person, and there was an awful lot going on just beneath the surface.

As for the Harry/Severus dynamic: I don't think it would have been possible for the relationship to have been any othr way. Remus summed it up perfectly when he told Harry that he (Harry) had inherited James' loathing of Severus. I've thought a lot about it, really, and I don't think Harry would have disliked Sev any less (or even trusted him) if Severus had been nicer to him.

But yes, in the end, after all was сказал(-а) and done, there was a kind of peace between them.
