I love him in both but it is just in the movies you see the warmth in his eyes when he talks to Harry and I think that is just great! he was my fav in the books but just below Fred. I love them!
I love Sirius in the book, I'm just not totally convinced of how the directors have portrayed his character in the movies though! I was hating how much him and Harry hugged in the last film, in the books their affection was always much more awkward than that!
I think it gave up the effect it needed to. They needed to show how much they care about each other and they had a limited time to do it. I don't really mind that they hug a bit more even though it's true that Harry isn't really someone who loves his hugs.
I still love Sirius much more in the books. He used to be my favourite character too until he died, though he will always be really special.
I don't really like most of the adult casting for the movies, everyone looks much older than I pictured them while reading the books. This is true with Sirius even though Gary is great actor. I think he looks too old and not quite attractive enough.
he is my favorite character in the books, but I don't like how they made him in the movie, I have nothing against the actor, only how they sort of chanced small things, for example when he, in fift movie called harry james, something he would never do in the book.
Book, always Book. I LOVE Gary Oldman, but I was a bit disappointed in his portrayal of Sirius. The personality didn't really come across (although that is maybe also because he didn't get as much screen time).
I loved Lupin more, but Sirus was one of my favourites, and the movies made him look like an idiot.
Gary Oldman is ok, I guess... it could be much worse...
Sirius is one of my favorite characters. He is also one of the few characters that I was not impressed with in the movies. The actor is great, but he's not Sirius to me. I like the book version of him much more.
i am absolutly obsessed with sirius, as u can tell from my name lol!
i even have litlle black dog figurines all around my room lol.
yea im defenently a crazed fan,
Well.. Most of all because we can never see half of the things that we find about him on the books in the movie.
All his details, even defaults are perfect to me. <3
I think that Gary's perfomence of Sirius in the movies is okay.
But i agree with tinydancer. Both, Harry and Sirius aren't the type of showing their feelings that much, mostly that quickly. But in the movies they were hugging all the time...
I think i understand the reason, tho. In the movies they had to show their relationship in a couple of scenes. Not the same as in the books, where their "paternal" (<3) relationship was grow as Harry knew more about Sirius.
But most of all, i hated the young Sirius (flashbacks of the 5th movie). I mean, even that it was really short and that we couldn't see almost anything, Sirius was supposed to be HOT!
Seriously, that is NOT the Sirius we read in the book. Just NOT..!
^^ Yea, i like Gary Oldman.
I wasn't talking about him, i was talking about the link we saw on Snape's worst memory. That Sirius was supposed to be hot. =/
I like him in both, but the movie was missing a lot. I am just sad because Fred dies and not George, why couldn't George die? Fred was my favorite.:( Well... Back on topic, Sirius was good not living. He needed to die or else squishy with all the charcters.
no offence, but i think gary oldman is too old to be sirius, and not nearly good looking enough (again, no offence meant!!).
i like george better than fred, but everyone else likes fred better. george has a better personality, i think, and i get the feeling that fred is supposed to be better liked. naturally, that makes me prefer george.
Definitely the books! I agree with Cas_Cat_2. Sometimes they get the casting right, and sometimes they don't. I wish they would pay more attention to the details. Young Sirius was supposed to be tall, with dark hair that he could flip out of his eyes with a casual toss of his head. (Try doing that with thick, curly hair!) He was also supposed to be very handsome. I didn't like their choice for young James either. Where was that famous messy black hair??
Gary Oldman is a terrific actor! But he was not even close to how I had pictured Sirius. Sirius was still in his early thirties when he escaped from Azkaban. Gary was in his early fifties when PoA was filmed. Yes, his years in Azkaban took a physical toll on Sirius, but they could have done wonders with a younger actor and some make-up wizardry. :)
i loved him in the books, but i thought that gary oldman was perfect for sirius, thats pretty much how i imagined him, remus lupin, and ginny weasley were my fav character but i really like sirus, i cried when he died
In the book they got time to show how much he loved harry even came to help in book 4 knowing if he got cought he will be werst than dead with a dimentors kiss. But in the move they only caure about harry black was kind of left out in every move
I love the actor Gary Oldman, but i will always prefer a book to a movie, and we don't see Sirius as often as we should see him in the movies (especially in the 4th movie)
Just because there is so much more of Sirius in the books! He's my favorite character, and that DOES NOT change just because he died. If I only watched the movies I wouldn't be attached to Sirius. Gary Oldman portrayed him wonderfully, but he didn't get much screen time.
Like everyone else said, they didn't hug much in the books. But I was thrilled to see them hugging in the movie, because if you didn't read the book before the movie then you wouldn't get how much they meant to each other. And there's one quote, from Dumbledore, that I missed in the movie terribly. I don't know it word for word, but Dumbledore was telling Harry how Sirius told Kreacher one thing that he didn't feel he needed to tell him not to tell anyone, naturally Harry asked what that was. Dumbledore told him, "That you were the most important thing in the world to him." You don't know how much I miss that quote.
I love him both ways but he became my number 1 character after I read the books. He was also better portrayed in the books. They make him look a little to old in my opinion in the 5th movie. He was 36 after all.
He's my favorite character. I prefer the books because there's more of him in the books than the movies . I think Gary Oldman potrayed him pretty well, not as I imagined him in the books of course. I always imagine him as the man who's a bit crazy after years in Azkaban, in the movies he's more sane . But, still love him though <3
In the films he wasn't at all how I imagined Sirius while reading. He looked older, they didn't portray the traumatising effect of Azkaban, and his relationship with Harry came across as awkward to me.
He is supposed to have more of a "I would have been handsome if not for Azkaban look," that I don't think they quite capture in the movies.
I still love Sirius much more in the books. He used to be my favourite character too until he died, though he will always be really special.
Gary Oldman is ok, I guess... it could be much worse...
i even have litlle black dog figurines all around my room lol.
yea im defenently a crazed fan,
after seeing the third movie, i pictured Sirius Black, the way he was, throughout the rest of the books.
-xo.
Well.. Most of all because we can never see half of the things that we find about him on the books in the movie.

So...Sirius Black and Remus Lupin were always my fav characters

It's just that, the books on the whole, are better.
That's it.
