I just re-watched Bloody Mary .. and I know we know why Sam's eyes bleed [Jess] but why do Dean's?! Kripke said we'd find out. buuuuut I don't remember if we ever did :\

Not a theory per say but Dean over the years has seemed to take it hard when he couldn't save someone, or when he felt like he let someone down(example - Dead in the Water, Faith, and Family Remains). I can't help but wonder if he felt like it was his fault Mary died. Or maybe a hunt went south and he felt like he could have done a better job of saveing people.

My theory is the same as fifthbitten's!(:

heh :) I think I figured it out! the Shtriga! remember? in 1x18 - Something Wicked .. how he 'let it get away'. I think that that was his secret, and since kids died cause' of it .. it was sort of his fault. in [Bloody] Mary's eyes at least.

i have a feeling that's something to do with John..don't ask me why..i dunno..but i always thought the reason behind that was something John related..

I thought it was just because she was out of the mirror and it no longer mattered, also because she kinda went for Dean after she crawled out.

If Kripke said that we would find out then I don't think it was just because she was out of the mirror. I think it was probably a hunt gone bad, or maybe the Shtriga incident like Dean-girlx said. I don't really think Dean felt like it was his fault that Mary died. Why would he? He was only a little kid and her death had nothing to do with him. Then again, children find ways of blaming themselves for things that aren't their fault all the time, so maybe if Dean was still carrying that around...

I'm sure tons of people died while he was hunting. And as Sam said (I think it was him at least), as long as there's a death and a secret, Bloody Mary doesn't see shades of gray. Or maybe he was still feeling guilty about the fact that his mother had died. Or maybe it had nothing to do with that, but if you saw Bloody Mary in person and she turned her powers on you, you have no choice but to die. Maybe before, she was just using her powers to enact vengeance on behalf of those who died, but now she's just pissed that the boys broke her mirror. I guess we'll never know, will we? Now what I want to know is, why did Bloody Mary's eyes bleed? She doesn't have any eyes!!! And you clearly saw them during the episode.

You guys have some pretty good theories. I agree with EllaBlack. Mary got out of her mirror, and she no longer needed a reason to kill someone. All they had to do was look at her and they would die.

HEY OMG HAHA!! I just realized why! Although the shtriga thing makes sense because Dean even says he felt guilty over it- I was just rewatching the whole series and this occured to me.

IT WAS AMY!! You know Sam's Kitsune friend - they eat brains I think. And Dean went off and killed it secretly- but of course never told Sam. And then when Sam found out it was such a big deal. Now I can be at peace :D

^But Amy's death happened years after Bloody Mary, and I don't think she sees future deaths involving secrets as well.

Reading these comments, I think the revelation of why Dean's eyes also bled was just a storyline idea they later dropped. Maybe they forgot about it entirely. I have to admit, I forgot.
