Why haven't Robin and Ted ended up together?

I just started watching the show, why isn't Robin the mother?

I know that, but the writers keep leading back to them, even in s5...so I will hope. I mean so she isn't the mother, no one сказал(-а) he was married to their mother.

I'm almost certain that they don't end up together. It seems like Ted and The Mother live happily ever after.
