There are some important differences between Claire Keesey and Krista Coughlin. Claire, a suburban yuppie and bank manager who had recently moved into Charlestown, had not only completed high school, but she had a college education and a decent job as a bank manager, where she made a decent amount of money, and therefore had many еще choices as to what she could do with her life. The fact that Claire's bank was robbed by Doug MacRay and his men, all in masks, who forced her to open the безопасно, сейф at gunpoint and then took her as a hostage, however briefly, was not her fault. I did sympathize with Claire at first because of that, and because of the fact that Claire had no idea that Doug had been following her for several weeks prior to him and his men having robbed her bank. However, when they finally met "by chance" in a Charlestown laundromat and Claire was traumatized to the point of crying, she made the mistake of opening up to Doug (who Claire didn't know was one of the robbers), and accepting a дата with Doug, a perfect stranger, especially after having been so traumatized by what had happened to her that she ultimately ended up quitting her job as a bank manager.

Claire not only lied to the Feds by fabricating a story about dating a Townie Пианино mover and not telling the Feds about the "Fighting Irish" tattoo on the back of "Jem's" neck when asked if she knew of anything that could identify one of the men when FBI Agent Frawley interviewed her, but she also continued to see Doug and refused to write him out of her life even after she and Doug were caught red-handed together by the FBI through a recorded telephone conversation, and after she'd learned that he was one of the robbers who'd knocked over her bank at gunpoint. Not only did Claire allow Doug to buy her an expensive diamond ожерелье with his "dirty" money, but she obstructed justice by tipping off Doug to the FBI's presence in her Charlestown condominium when the Feds were a hair или so away from really nabbing Doug and forcing him to serve time in a penitentiary for his crimes. She also kept the duffel bag of stolen money that Doug left for her before skipping town and spent it all on the renovation of the seedy ice-hockey rink, when it really wasn't hers to spend.

Had Claire allowed FBI Agt. Frawley to help her out to begin with after her bank was robbed, not accepted a дата with Doug, fallen for his deceitful behavior and lies to begin with, and allowed herself to be taken in by Doug's charming charisma and exploited by him, she would've saved herself a great deal of trouble and heartache. Again, since Claire was educated, with a decent income, she had еще choices in life than "Jem's" sister, Krista did, and she chose extremely poorly. I also believe that, at this point, Claire had to have known that she was playing with огонь when she continued to be in contact with Doug even after she'd learned the truth about him, and after the FBI had learned about their relationship through the recorded phone conversation, and when she tipped Doug off about the FBI. Claire did not have to fall for Doug, или to abet him by obstructing justice, thereby enabling him to go free.

Moreover, Claire also did not have to allow Doug to buy her an expensive diamond ожерелье with his ill-gotten money, nor did she have the right to accept and keep Doug's duffel bag full of stolen, dirty money that he'd left for her in her community garden. If Claire wanted to have the hockey rink renovated, OK, that was one thing. However, she should've called the police and FBI and turned in that money (which wasn't hers to spend, anyway), and found еще honest ways of getting funding for the renovation of the hockey rink. It would've undoubtedly taken much, much longer to get funds for the rink, but at least it would've been an honest way to do it, versus using stolen money for that purpose. By making the poor choices she made, Claire also became an accessory to Doug's crimes after the fact, and was considered an accomplice to Doug by the FBI. Moreover, she abetted a career criminal who was also an armed felon and a wanted fugitive by enabling him to escape the law, put herself in a situation where she was also under surveillance by the FBI, and also Остаться в живых the support of her Друзья as a consequence of her own actions.

Krista Coughlin, a Townie prostitute, and the sister of the unstable dust-head "Jem", on the other hand, had been born and raised up in a particularly dysfunctional, low-class, uneducated family, where she grew up and lived her whole life among rough-and-tough guys who were also professional bank robbers, and therefore not good role Модели for her. So, Krista, through no choice of her own, is forced into a life of prostitution that resulted in her being a single parent, with a 14 месяц old mentally retarded daughter named Shyne, being a drug мул for "Fergie" the Florist and Charlestown's crime boss, and becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol.

So, yes, although I certainly don't advocate the kind of life that Krista led, I do feel somewhat sympathetic with her, due to the fact that she, unlike Claire, had no real choices in life, and was forced into a life of exploitation and abuse. Doug had been Krista's former (casual) lover and she was miffed that he'd dumped her for Claire, who he fell for after talking with and listening to after her bank was knocked over, and Claire, in turn, had fallen for Doug. Between being dumped by Doug, frustrations over being exploited and treated like trash by so many guys (including Doug) that she'd slept with, and being threatened with the loss of her infant daughter, Shyne, if she didn't cooperate with the FBI, it's no small wonder that Krista ultimately ratted out Doug and his men (none of who were likeable either, btw) to the Feds.
