Chapter One
Book One- Zoe
WHEN Ты ARE INVISIBLE, Ты CAN SEE WHAT OTHERS THINK Ты CAN'T SEE. THIS CAN COME IN HANDY WHEN Ты NEED TO KNOW YOUR ENEMY. -EMMA
I planted my suitcase on the front porch where my sister Sophie would supposedly carry it inside and up to our rooms или at least that is what dad told her to do. It was very humid out here and I did not want to be out here in this heat. After fetching all of her suitcases, I caught a glimpse of her painting her fingernails and toenails bright red. Irresponsible, as usual. We slave our butts off while she paints her nails. Ты could not trust that girl to do anything. I tried pointing this out to dad but he was too busy with his fiancé Carrie.
Although, I want to believe that Carrie loves him, I just can not see a girl like her with my father. They were so not compatible. For one she looks like she should be in her late twenties или early thirties while my dad is in his early forties. She should be one of those dancers in a hip hip movie while my dad has a picture of himself on the cover of National Geographic. What could they possible have to talk about. If I had known two years назад that they were going to get engaged, I would have stopped it there,
"Sophie!" I called from the car. I was fed up with her being lazy. "You gotta take those suitcases inside!"
"When I am done," she replied. If I had let those suitcases sit outside in the hot air, then I would most likely get in trouble. Dad would find a way to make it my fault. I took it upon myself to lug those heavy bags inside our new home. The sad part is that this would be the most fun I would probably have this summer.
I did not want to spend my birthday like this. The день I turn 13 had to be the день we Переместить into this old Victorian Главная with Carrie. My dad thought it would be a fun adventure but all I see that is the least bit fun is the tire hanging on the rope which was tied on a дерево branch. It reminded me of mom. Bittersweet.
I had to admit though. The house was gigantic and very elegant. There were about three floors, the first floor contained the kitchen, living room, and an extra room which would be dad's office and a library. The секунда floor contained four bedrooms and three bathrooms. I thought that would definitely come in handy. Then the third floor was the attic. I had to beg dad for me to set up my art studio up there and he had finally agreed this morning. I was so excited that I started designing what I wanted my studio to look like in the car ride.
Sophie and I would finally have our own separate rooms on the секунда floor. They were right beside each other but at least this time I can have my own постель, кровати and keep my diary nearby without having the fear of her Чтение it.
"Do Ты like it Zoe?" My dad asked. He was suddenly right behind me. I did not even realize that he had climbed up the stairs along with me to my room.
"Yea, it is huge," I replied.
Sophie peered at my room. "Zoe, did Ты try to decorate your room?" She asked. She had came out of no where. This family needs to start wearing bells around their necks.
"Yes, Sophie," I сказал(-а) annoyed. "Just wait until I finish most of my paintings. They will be hanging in my room. Oh and dad can I repaint my room the way I want it?" I already had a great idea for it. If I was going to live in this room for the rest of my life until I go to college then I would have to do it my way.
"Sure but please do not mess with the wiring или anything other then painting the walls." He looked exhausted but he did have to drive from Atlanta, Georgia to Brunswick, Georgia which was a 5 час drive. He wouldn't be so tired if Carrie hadn't left her bags back in Atlanta and her wallet. "And I promised Sophie she could have half of the attic for her instruments."
All of our lives Sophie an I had to share everything but I really didn't want to share the attic with my twin. I Любовь her and all but besides my room I have nothing of mine. I don't know what it is but me and my sister just don't see eye to eye. We are two completely different people. This could just be me being selfish. "Fine. I gotta go unpack."
I slammed the door in their face and squished my face onto the pillow. I didn't want to Переместить out here in the first place and then this Carrie girl comes and ruins everything. I just wish that mom was here. Bittersweet.
'Are Ты okay old friend?' whispered a soft voice. The voice was soothing and familiar at the same time but I couldn't remember. I sat up but I saw no one in my room. My nerves were getting to me again.
Whenever I have a strong emotion, I can hear a voice so calming that it makes me forget about my troubles but I thought that, that would go away as soon as we moved. 'It only gets stronger the older Ты get.' The voice only got louder and еще clearer. 'I will need your help one day. Would Ты help me?" I felt compelled to help.
A couple of hours later, Carrie called everyone down for dinner. The only thing she was useful for was cooking us dinner. She has a real talent with cooking but my mom was better. Bittersweet again!
Sophie glanced at me as if she had something important to tell me but didn't know how to tell me. When we were 10, we created this secret code that we would send to each other if their was something we needed to tell each other. If it was an emergency then Ты hold up three fingers, two for it can wait, and one for I have something to tell Ты but I won't tell Ты now. Today it was an emergency.
Ты could see the panic in her brown eyes which were similar to mine.
"A vegan hot dog for Zoe and a regular hotdog with everything on it for Sophie." Instead of giving me the vegan hotdog, she gave it to Sophie while I got a hotdog with everything on it. She was always getting this wrong. We have known Carrie for about two years now and she still couldn't tell us apart.
"Actually, I am Zoe and that is Sophie," I corrected.
"Oops," she giggled. Her giggles are so irritating but my dad thought they were adorable. What does he see in her? "Sorry Sophie, and Zoe. I am so forgetful."
"We will be right back," I сказал(-а) quickly. Sophie and I got up from the таблица and went straight to her room which she had spent enriching her room with pictures of Друзья and some of her Избранное bands. She paced the open area back and forth. Sensing she was not going to talk anytime soon I сказал(-а) something first. "What is the emergency?"
"Remember when dad сказал(-а) we had imaginary Друзья named Emma and Erica?" She questioned.
"Yea why?"
"I think I saw Emma," she answered.
"Don't Ты think Ты are a bit too old for imaginary friends?" I joked, she was not laughing.
"She was not imaginary. She was dead." The stern look on her face told me everything. It told me everything that I knew was true whether my brain сказал(-а) it wasn't. No matter how ridiculous it sounded, I knew that we had made Друзья with spirits.

We are going separate ways.
We must leave each other,
Though I regret it,
There is nothing either of us
Can do.
We are going separate ways.
The bright light shines in our futures,
For the separate ways we go
Are the best for each of us.
We must leave for the good of it,
Though I don't want to,
And I know Ты don't either.
But it is important that we do.
It is never easy
Doing what we do the worst,
Leaving each other,
And the thoughts that we are...
Best friends...leaving each other...
We must go our separate ways.
For our own good.
And we pray that one day...
We will meet each other again.
And we will.
We must leave each other,
Though I regret it,
There is nothing either of us
Can do.

Hi. My name is Jake Gartner, and right now, basically a huge mutant serpent is coming to глотать, ласточка me whole, tear me to pieces of flesh, so I have no time to talk right now. Oh, um...you want to follow me? Sure, just accept that everyday will be the best of the thrills. Right now, we are not getting any help from the immortal world, so just know that we have a horrible system of magic right now, and we have an extremely low supply of weapons, thus, the chance that Ты will get out of this mess is around eighty-six percent. (because of me, the master of war) Oh yeah, the serpent. Enough talk. (ROARS) Off to kill a mutant serpent!!! (stabs, deflects, cuts a gash in its head, dies) That's only our first one, trainee. Whatever your name is. Далее time, I invite Ты to Присоединиться with us on our battle. And it will be even еще life-consuming, if Ты know what that means.
I walk into
The Fields of Sorrow
Once again.
Why do I walk there
Almost everyday?
I stroll along the grasses
Thinking
Bearing a horrible pain.
I think of the world around me
And how much they have inspired me.
I start to cry once again.
All my teachers
All my friends,
They have always stood by me,
When things went wrong.
I want a chance to repay them,
To Показать them that...
Their work was useful.
To Показать them that
I am truly thankful.
Why do I have to leave them then
Now?
No, now's not a good time.
But I know it was not intended
That I leave them now.
I want to Показать all those people
That they have been
The change of my life,
That they have made my life so much
Better,
That they were the flames
In the darkness.
The Fields of Sorrow
Once again.
Why do I walk there
