*sigh* how many times must i give my reasons for this??

even though he might look 25, jacob is really just a kid who is in love. in love with someone who happens to be marrying a vampire, his worst enemy. if you loved someone more than anything, would you just stand back and watch as they lived happily ever after with someone else? probably not, unless you are a perfect person.jacob can't help fighting as hard as he can for bella, he believes that they are meant to be together. (i dont think that jacob and bella should be together, i love edward too, but i like jacob as a person and as bellas friend). jacob also has a great personality, and a sense of humor. and he seems more human than edward does. edward is perfect and beautiful and impeccable in every way, which makes him seem unreal. edward hardly ever lets his emotion show, because hes had 100 years of practice. jacob is only 17, and has had a lot to deal with, being a werewolf and all, and you cant help but feel for him. (well, obviously some people can) i like jacob's character because i can feel his pain (and also his joy) and i think that people who say they hate him are just resentful because he's trying to break up the perfect couple.
im not saying anything against edward with this, i love him too, i just dont hate jacob.

jacob is just a kid in love (like shawna said) you can't help fall in love with who you fall in love with and its not his fault that the one he fell in love with already had someone. jacob was an amazing friend to bella when edward left her and helped her through really hard times, being there for her without throwing himself at her.

he is simply someone coping with loss and rejection by bella choosing edward, he's not the bad guy. he's bellas best friend and rightfully so.

Everyone who hates Jacob gets on my nerves. He didn't do anything wrong! It's all Bella's fault! And you all just keep foccusing on that! I mean, he's not even my favorite character. Or maybe he is, next to Jasper and Alice. I like Edward a lot too, but I don't like him more than I like Jake. I mean, some of you only love Edward because he's supposed to be perfect and all, but he's not! He's a sweet, gentle, caring and cute guy, but he's not perfect. He's not so funny, he's way too protective and he's kind of boring.

*sigh* I'm noticing a trend to this fandom. Team Jacob girls don't mind Edward but Team Edward girls hate Jacob. Coincidence? I don't really think so.
Technically, Bella was available when he fell in love with her. He can't help it. He has that sweet, gentle side to him that every girl loves. Yet there is that temper which I believe stems from his being a wolf and also a bit from Sam somehow. Jacob is a fighter, thus the attitude sometimes. And also that is why he fights for Bella. He is the more average guy, the one that hasn't lived forever and the more real side whereas Edward is the superfluous side. He's the guy that had the advantage because he has lived so long, so he had time to perfect everything about him. I think there is no way Jacob is selfish. If you think about it, Edward is not such a prince either. And don't prosecute Jacob. At least Jacob had a choice. Sure, he makes mistakes... but he IS NOT perfect. Let me repeat that: NOT PERFECT! Everyone makes mistakes. We all know where we come up short, but at least Jacob is man enough to admit where he has made his faults. Edward realizes his mistakes, true. But he has also pushed Bella on more than one occasion into his options and his choices and nullifying her own. She gets small choices here and there, true. But in the end, Edward always gets his way... except in a couple places where Bella pushed herself beyond the brink and didn't succumb to his wishes as she normally does. He keeps suppressing her, whereas Jacob doesn't. And if you think about it, Jacob's story is sad if you think of things from his perspective. Imagine if it had been you fighting for... say... Edward? Wouldn't you have done something similar to fight for Edward if you had known he was the one for you? Of course. Because we're more human. Jacob did the exact thing that humans do. Edward has had eons of practice to hone his patience. So therefore, do not prosecute Team Jacob just because we have different tastes than you. We are not insane because we do not agree with your opinion. That, in itself, is a bit selfish. And Jacob explained himself for the minor betrayal with the bikes. It was a misunderstanding. Again: NOT PERFECT. Some girls prefer imperfection to the perfect. It's just the way we are. You don't see us saying "How can you like Edward? He's a self-pampering, controlling, prep!" However, I don't say that because I recognize each character for their faults. I actually like Edward, but I prefer Jacob. I feel sorry for him and I feel his sadness. Don't turn a blind eye to people, even if they are fictional. That, in itself, is cruel.

Not very many get to see the wonder of Jacob Black because we don't read it in print (the whole series in in Bella's POV so if she denies certain feelings she has, then we won't read about it). Jacob is not selfish enough to actually be called selfish. I feel like I'm having to repeat myself often just to explain why Jacob felt pushed to giong to the extremes with Bella just so that SHE could see that she has options, not just Edward. Of course, we all "know" that Edward is the only one for Bella, but we should not expect all the characters ni the book to know this. Jacob wants a better life for Bella, and as far as he knew (because we, as readers, don't get to fill him in on why Edward should be with Bella), in Jake's mind Edward is the "undead" and existing with these cravings for human blood that he just so happen to control (along with the other Cullens, although Jasper slipped once). The point it, the Quileutes and the Pack know of "normal vampires" and their natural desires. The Cullens and the Denali group are SUCH the minority that it isn't even funny. This is why Jake fears for Bella - she is about to choose an existance of the undead. I know, to us, who have read about and sympathized with the Cullens from the very beginning, we don't see the Cullens as the undead. To us, they're practically "human". Again, you need to step out of your shoes and try to understand where the werewolves are coming from. Without that comprehension, you really can't judge Jake and his actions. If Bella had not been so stubborn to see that she was in love with him too, he might not have resorted to the "I'm gonna take myself out of the picture" move. And again, he wanted her tp see this so that she would KNOW that she had another option. It's NOT about "I want her so she needs to see she loves me" - it's about "If she sees she loves me, then she'll see that she can have a choice of remaining human."

But you know, I think this POV is near impossible to comprehend if one has the attitude of "I wanna be a vampire too!!" I ask, seriously?? Like if all of this was real, you'd want to be a vampire and crave human blood? Not everyone can control their instincts like Edward and Carlisle. If you can go through a month without touching an itch, then you might have a chance to be a vampire that can control your natural urges. Try it. If you have an itch (head, arm, leg, nose, wherever), consiously try and ignore it. Don't rub against the door frame or anything at all. Just let it be. Try it for 30-days (and itch-free days don't count). That takes a LOT of concentration and will power. Becoming a "vegetarian" vampire will require even more than that since they have to do this everyday for... well, forever. Jacob probably understands how difficult it is and that's why he doesn't want it for Bella.

Anyways, don't you think insulting fictional characters is kind of low. And I'd like to say something. I don't know about you, but if the vampires weren't there, I would go for Jacob the instant I hear of him.

i think it's like this. the instant jacob comes into the picture in twilight, you either fall immediately in love with him, or you immediately hate his guts and will never want him to come between edward & bella. the thing that i really love about jacob is that he brings out a great side of bella. to tell the truth, bella frustrates and annoys me very easily, but i really do love the side of her when she is with jake. now i'm not saying i don't love edward, in all his old-fashioned gentelmanly charm, believe me, i do.
so jacob has some flaws, unlike edward, who is perfect. but jacob's flaws are what make him so loveable to me. though bella is destined to be with edward, i think she's more compatible with jacob. what i mean by this is that edward knows everything, and bella is kind of pathetic next to him. jacob is funny and boyish, and at the same time he is mature. edward rarely shows the first two qualities, mainly being mature. they both would do anything for bella.
edward bores me. he is cold and pale, and as hard as a stone.
jacob is more human than edward. he is not perfect. he is HOT (literally, and figurativly) i think its his comfortable, warm spirit that makes him lovable. as bella would call him, her sun.

Same! Yeah Jacob I feel so bad because he's in love with Bella and really cares about her. And he always tries to get Bella to understand she should be with him, but bella loves edward too much to do that even though shes in love with jacon too. Jacob is just more freespirited not so protective and controlling. He lets loose because he can, and I think Bella really likes how she can do normal things with him without be so cautious. I do like Edward, but I don't think people realize he's not perfect. He is very controlling but bella doesnt take it that way. He's controlling because he loves her so muhc, but he can give her a little bit of freedom she shouldnt have to even ask for it!

I don't hate Jacob i think he is just a kid still who is in love with a girl that likes him but loves someone else too. He also has a lot of pressure on him with the treaty and his love and the whole werewolf and vampire thing. I love Edward and Jacob but I love Edward more! They are both awesome in their own ways! Can we stop all the hate with the characters because that's how they are and their not gonna change! I think it kinda makes the story more interesting!=)

:P Laur123!!! I think it's the way how he's only 16 when he falls in love with Bella and he's determined not to mess it up. He's very gentle with her and accepts that she doesn't love him at first. And I think Stephenie puts it beautifull; that he knows what things will bother Bella before she tells him but in the first chapter of Eclipse Edward tells Bella that they'll hunt for wolves in Alaska!! How could he not see that that would be offensive to her??? And without Bella giving anything away, Jacob knows that Bella doesn't mind physical contact...as long as it's the right kind, he knows not to mention the name Cullens or talk about vampires, and he knows that she hates music. And even though her own FATHER keeps watching for 'the return of the zombie,' Jacob's not there waiting for her to do something crazy. He accepts her for who she is. I will admit that I didn't really understand his motives in Eclipse-with all the kisses and the sexual talk that day at the vampire fight, but he got better. At the end of the book, when he was hurt, he gave up Bella because he did love her more. Edward would wait for Bella to say that she didn't want him, and after Bella spent all night crying, then Edward STILL wouldn't suggest that Jacob was better for her. In the chapter Fire and Ice, he told Jacob that he had considered that Jacob was better for Bella, but he never actually told Bella that that's what he thought. Plus Jacob pointed out that he would tell Bella all this but she wouldn't believe him. And Edward laughed. Which sounds to me like Edward didn't mean for Bella to find out that he had considered Jacob a better match for her, because Edward in selfish in that way; He thinks he needs Bella but he's LIFELESS!! his 'heart' will heal. :P

I picked Edward, but I can defend Jake. I know what you mean because I felt the same way reading the books. If you can try to see it from his side, it might make more sense. He loves Bella, Bella loves Edward, and Edward left, so he thinks that he can help Bella recover and they can live on happily. So then Edward comes back, so he's out of time. He loves Bella, and Bella loves him although it's "eclipsed" by her supernatural love for Edward and she doesn't know it. So his options are to let her go and wonder what if, or fight to gain the chance to win her love. I guess he figured being a jerkwad in the present was worth a lifetime of regret. Besides that, I think it's realistic for hormone-infused dramatic outbursts to be common with an unpredictable werewolf who is on the losing end of a love triangle. Have pity on him.

I'm Team Edward, but Jacob is cool.

Keep in mind that Edward LEFT Bella. He wasn't coming back. Jacob saved her, if he hadn't been there Bella would have never smiled or laughed just because. For that I adore Jacob.

I like them both. Jacob more because hes more relaxed and seems like a better person to hang out with. He doesnt take days to think through a decision hes more in the moment. And all those reasons up there. How can you hate him. And how could you not feel bad for him at the end of eclipse?

um...kitkat211, u need to stop being mean. and people are buying the "he's just a kid" excuse (because it's true), i have convinced many of my friends not to hate jacob using those reasons that i put above, and i think that you are just stubborn and will stick to your point. but that doesnt mean everybody else will. everyone can have their own opinion.

I don't hate Jacob but I definatly like Edward better. Sometimes I feel bad for him because Edward always knows what Jacob is going to say/do to try to get Bella back.

*sigh* Ok...you people all need to chill apparently some of you have noticed the real problem here but some of you are a bit slower and have not so I'll tell you...the real problem is Edward. Yea, yea I kno I am in love with Edward too and I hate Jacob with a passion, but if you think about it it's all Edward's fault cause he is the stupid overprotective spaz,granted he does have his reasons for being an overprotective spaz,that thought that it was a good idea to leave Bella and that she would just forget that he existed...which she didn't. So Jacob had the chance to stitch Bella's broken heart back up and that obviously left it's mark on her heart which means that he will always be a part of her life. Also he is her best friend and she never thought that he would fall in love with her to her their love was more of a best friend type of love not the romantic type, only in the end did she realize the difference and then it was too late because she had Edward back and that's all that mattered. So basically if Edward had never left her she wouldn't have ever become friends with Jacob and they wouldn't have gotten close enough to form a relationship. So even though I don't like Jacob at all I don't blame him for falling in love with Bella and trying to make her realize that she loved him back, because she obviously does it's just not as much as she loves Edward, although this doesn't mean that I like Jacob and want him to be with Bella cause I am TEAM EDWARD ALL THE WAY!!! I just wish that Jacob would move on and imprint on some chick in Canada so that everyone would be happy!!! Go Edward!!!

im not sure where you get "back- stabbing" from, but yes he is selfish. but i mean look at edward... tragic flaws: hes controlling, posessive, overreacts, and unreasonable... he cant seem to find a middle ground for anything, yet we love him why? because hes a very sweet, caring, god-like character that any girl would die for. despite his flaws, we seem to find the good in him and love him for it. jacob has his shining moments too... he, like edward, has bellas best interest in mind, and he UNLIKE edward, doesnt have a tragic flaw and isnt afraid to hurt her feelings... he tells her how it is rather than sugar coating everything. hes a sweet guy, just like edward, so yes i like him too... i just happen to like edward more. but you can NOT lie and say that if jacob were introduced first, and bella fell for him first, you wouldnt love him just like you love edward, and this whole thing would be the other way around... loving jacob, hating edward.

Okay, the reason why I don't like Jacob is because he reminds me of my not so favorite character in OTH. LMAO

First of all, he's way too young for me, therefore I can't love him like that. And also, since most of the people who've read the series make a b-line for Edward at first reading, I've gotten perpetually sick of him. He's the selfish one. Even when he leaves Bella in New Moon "for her own good" he had personal reasons, even if we aren't made privy to them. Just because Jacob is persistent doesn't make him selfish or back-stabbing. He's a teenager, that's what he's supposed to do, be pushy.

And your choices are a little biased, if I do say so myself. These are characters in a book, and being a writer, I'm able to detach myself from ridiculous choices like this one. I neither love nor hate either of them. I see them the way they are, not because one if better than the other. They both have flaws, despite Stephenie Meyer plainly stating that Jacob has no flaws.

He's more real! Edward have Bella, money, a perfect dad and mom, incredible sisters and brothers, read minds, is the best studant.
But this isn't the reality. The most of the girls in the world, had cry because the person they loved didn't love them, aren't rich, have bad dads and moms and fight with the brothers all time!

I liked Jacob back in New Moon when he was a really good friend to Bella and helped her through a tough time, however, if you want to compare Edward and Jacob:

Jacob blackmailed Bella into kissing him,
Edward blackmailed Bella into marriage.

Jacob helped protect Bella by running patrols to keep her safe from Victoria,
Edward "helped protect" Bella by watching her sleep.

Jacob was a great friend to Bella when Edward left, and helped her heal,
Edward was so jealous, he stole the engine from her truck and bribed his sister to kidnap her, just so she couldn't see Jacob.

You really think Edward's better than Jacob?
