I haven't been this excited to explore Fanpop since the quiz feature came out. So I think it's definitely doing what the F4 hoped it would :)

I actually find it... juvenile. You know those sites that are designed to help kids learn? Looks like that now. I just don't think I need to be patted on the head for having a user icon or a motto.

Does anyone know if those pop-up things are able to be turned off? Will they appear every time I do something?

hey misanthrope86. we're sorry you feel that way, we're not trying to be patronizing or condescending in any way. we designed it to be a fun way to reward users for being active on the site. feel free to turn off the pop-up notifications of new caps in your profile settings with the checkbox.

Yeah, I know you guys only ever have good intentions with the changes you make. A lot of other people seem interested in it. Its just not for me.

I am still a little confused on what these caps are supposed to be, especially the Good Luck Charms? What are they supposed to signify? [gold coin, wish bone, etc.]

The caps thing popped out when I logged in to Fanpop and I thought it was spam! lol. But then, I recognised the font. :P

I think it's a cute idea. Lighten up, guys! It's something fresh and new! We can now earn something besides medals and props.

It looks pretty good! And it doesn't seem like something that people can cheat with like the medals. Plus they look cool on your profile :)

It's to say the least pointless as well as fairly annoying. Turning it off too.

- Are they earnt though? I opened Fanpop, then opened another tab and did some other stuff, came back a while later and had one of those coin things flash up on my screen. Didn't do anything to earn it except login.

Maybe that's part of the fun. You log in and get something new. I guess it's an incentive for people to stay active, too. There's nothing wrong with props and medals, but I was excited to see something new and different.

Also, maybe the F4 will post an article about it once the whole thing is developed properly and we'll know a little more about the caps.

I just have one request - that I get a bottlecap for being the Voice of Reason... Or we could call it, "The Cinders Award." I could dig it.

So...I just logged in and I've got new caps. One says 'Novice' and the caption says 'You've been a member of Fanpop for a month! You'll be a pro in no time!'
The other one says 'Learner'. Caption: 'You've been a Fanpopper for a year now! Time to ride with the big boys!'
Ummm....I've been on Fanpop since 2008.
And I confess that I bristled at being called a Novice 'Popper. :PPP

It's a nice and natural contrast to the props and medals features; rather than something dependent on other users, these appear to be dependent on your own activity on the site. In this way, they're like "achievements" in gaming parlance: the first few are completely elementary - you show up, you get an achievement - but the later ones represent more significant effort (as well as simple time on the site - like my upcoming Grandmaster cap!). ...at least, I'm assuming that there will be later ones. I've only just seen them this afternoon.

I agree with The Countess....anyone wha has won a fanpoppy should have it displayed in their showcase.Also i think we should be given more info on how it all works.I like the idea though.....
