Recap: Reviews of Аниме I have watched and (mostly) enjoyed. Spoilers.
Banner of the Stars II—What happened to Banner of the Stars I? It bored me, with all its battle strategies and technical talk. I wouldn’t have even watched Banner of the Stars II, except I wanted to find out about the fate of Jinto and Lafiel, whom I care about from the mother show, Crest of the Stars. BOTS II was еще bearable than BOTS I, though still not as fun as the original COTS.
Black Cat—The story of a deadly assassin, Train Heartnet, who gives up his murderous ways and becomes a non-lethal bounty hunter, inspired by the Пение of a beautiful (but short-lived) neighbor, Saya. All well and good in itself, but the real звезда of the Показать for me is Sven Vollfied, another bounty hunter, down on his luck but with his sense of chivalry very much still intact. Now, some women may roll their eyes at the attitude of chivalry today, but I find it very attractive. Sven wears an eye patch, not because he Остаться в живых an eyeball, but because one eye allows him to see into the future, which is very draining for him. He looks quite striking when both eyes are showing, because they are mismatched in color, even еще so than Spike Spiegel’s. Sven befriends a human weapon named Eve, and his loving, fatherly influence no doubt leads her to strive to be good instead of destructive. All in all, Train is cute, but Sven is sexy as all get out. (Drools.) In my personal collection.
Buso Renkin—A boy tries to save a damsel in distress and ends up being saved by her. He joins her in her fight against Homunculi. As they fight together, they grow closer together.
Then comes the день when the Alchemist Army, the organization they were fighting for, announces the boy, Kazuki, must die. His very own mentor, Captain Bravo (I keep wanting to call him Captain Crunch) is assigned to kill him. The girl, Tokiko, vows to run away with Kazuki until they find a cure for him for turning into a humanoid/Homunculi hybrid, whose very existence sucks the life out of living things.
Oh, and did I mention Papillon? He is truly outrageous. I usually don’t like villains a lot, since they cause so much pain to the good guys, but this guy is so fabulous one can’t help but like him. The clothes he wears, the way he says things—oh, it just must be seen to be believed!
This is one of those series where everyone has a special power или skill which they shout out before attacking, which Ты would think would give the enemy time to dodge them. In spite of that unoriginality in that area, this series is a load of fun, and has a happy ending. In my personal collection.
Ceres Celestial Legend—Supposed to be horror—more of a thriller. Still quite enjoyable. (I’m not one for out and out horror anyway.) It’s about a girl who harbors in her the incarnation of a vengeful angel, based on an old folk tale. I liked Aya and Toya as a couple, but still felt sorry for Yuhi for getting left out. One character I thought for sure was dead (and dead a bit too early) came back. Bittersweet but good ending.
Chance Pop Session—a cute, sweet show, albeit with too many outlandish coincidences and revelations. I expected Darth Vader to Показать up and announce he was somebody’s father.
Cowboy Bebop—what can say about Bebop that hasn’t been сказал(-а) before? It got me hooked on anime. It is intense—what a thrill ride. And that Spike is so sexy (albeit not the brightest bulb in the bunch. Okay, okay, I know he can be pretty clever some times, but this guy can’t be entrusted with his own life.) My секунда Избранное anime.
I’m not totally into the background story; that the earth is practically in ruins and most humans live elsewhere in the solar system, though the terraforming is somewhat intriguing.
Okay, this is a spoiler, but probably everyone else knows this by now—Spike dies (apparently) at the end. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it was so fascinating it started my obsession with anime. On the other hand—well, Spike’s dead. Julia didn’t completely work for me, either. I couldn’t get too into her and Spike’s romance because it was taken for granted in flashback. We didn’t get to see them meet and develop a relationship; we were just told one was there. I would have rather seen Spike get something going with Faye. Oh, well, maybe Jet will be willing to take her!
This is the first series put into my personal collection.
Crest of the Stars—Unlike the spaceship battle-heavy sequels, this series focuses on two young (potential) sweethearts on the run across the galaxy.
Cromartie High School—You know, usually I thrive on angst and romance. This Показать doesn’t have any. It’s just bizarrely funny. And oddly, that’s enough. Enough for it to make it into my personal collection.
