Дебаты Group Project For The Дебаты Spot?

My friend and I a long time ago came up with an idea of establishing a website to explain the basic political theories present in the world. We wanted to explain, as unbiased as we could, the differences, for example, between liberalism and conservativeness, the US democratic party and the US republican party, socialism and communism, etc, etc, etc.

Now this was far too big of a project for two teenagers (who didn't really have the knowledge or research in the first place) to take on and it never really left the idea stage. But (and I'm just talking here) I thought if maybe a large group of people worked on it, maybe we could put some sort of site together.

I know sites like this exist, and you can look up (insert term here) and get a very detailed description but what I want to do (and I recognize it's ambitious) is give a simplified, but accurate description that will hold the attention span of the average Internet surfer.

I don't want stereotypical definitions. I want knowledgeable points.

Now this is just an idea, and it might not go anywhere, but I thought I'd pose it to you guys to see what yout hink.

eek. i think you'd have to narrow it down to either domestic or international first. realism, liberalism, etc. have slightly different definitions depending on which sphere you're talking about.

it might work. i'd certainly be willing to give it a try.

I'd love to help out... especially if you'd need help with the more global/international theories. Blisslikethis is write you have to narrow it down a bit...

Second, what perspectives of contrast would you like to establish? I admire your idea...

When my friend and I first conceptualized it, our goal was to educate the average American armchair-voter about what they were voting for, but I thought it would be interesting to do a more international perspective. For example, you could have a liberalism (American) and Liberalism (European) section to differentiate.

If we could gather a list of terms, after that, we could have each user choose a term to define. There would be anywhere upwards of twenty terms, probably, so it would be a big project. It would have to be well-researched, so people should actually WANT to do it in their free time... I don't know anyone who's lame like me and does that other than some fanpoppers. Which is why I thought of asking you guys.

Originally, I wanted it to be unbiased but remembered there is no such thing as "unbiased." I'm willing to take perspectives on the terms that are positively biased towards the term.

I've always said the best way to learn about an argument is to read two articles biased towards two different sides, rather than one supposedly unbiased article. If every term is defined as "this is the greatest thing in the world" and tries to sell itself to the reader, it would still be fair grounds for the reader to decide which is best for them.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

hmm, i'm thinking i could offer myself up as an editor/moderator of some sort. i think it would be important to make sure everything was as thorough and accurate as possible, and i feel fairly qualified to do that, if everyone's ok with that. i could also take on a few terms, if needed.

as for dividing things up by geographic location, i'm not sure that's the best way to go about it. it might be more effective to have an American domestic section and an international section.. by "international", i didn't mean "in places other than the US". i meant that these terms often have different definitions when referring to the arena of international relations.

Haha, good point. The US does have their own standards by which they think everyone should be measured by.
