no so long as they are used...

Even if they did, there's no way to verify a person's real age. It would be very easy for someone to lie, so I really don't think it would really do much of anything.

Well I just think that trying to make a minimum age wouldn't work, so we just need to teach kids how to safely use these sites instead.

Well, it is hard to verify a person's age, but I wouldn't want my child on myspace getting spam like, "check out these pics of super hot college grrls." There are a few websites that are heavily monitored for kids - club penguin comes to mind.

If it was, It should be at least 14. It doesn't matter though as people will just fake the age to get on. It is incredebly easy.

Question invalid because of the use of the word 'ALL' -

Well no, not ALL need to be for grown ups only, but the ones that are for grown ups should stay for grown ups.... and it isn't always about their safety. It is about my annoyance level ;)

yes they may be able to understand but weather they obey the terms or fully grasp the seriousness of the dangers is a completely different question!

Again... I'm not their parent. My stance on age limitations stems solely from me not wanting to deal with kids on my grown-ups playgrounds.

They inevitably want to start monitoring how many times I say the word Fuck or some such shit...

It's like Tessa said - there's no way to monitor someone's real age. It doesn't matter if you have limitations, if someone really wants it, they'll do it anyway. I think some sites probably have age limitations for legal reasons, but there's no way to enforce it.

Parents should be in charge of what they let their kids do or not do. If they don't like the website that their child uses, they can block it from the computer. That is much more effective than anything the website itself could do.

It is getting annoying though on facebook now that there are all these middle schoolers and 30/40/50 year-olds on there now (too young and too old!!). They should do something about that, I'm not sure what though.

As long as they are used responsibly, I think it's okay. But honestly, anyone could lie about their age. All you have to do is say, I'm 20." "I'm 67." Sheesh, you could even say you were 100, for goodness sake!!!

You see a lot of impulsive kids posting things that shouldn't be said online or even out loud. I think a good age to use social network is 16.

^its different when you are an adult, which is worse, screwing up your life when you are a child or when you are an adult? Kids shouldn't to me have an opportunity this way, that can haunt them forever while they are still children. If adults can't conduct themselves online why would children be any different. That is how I fell, but good point

Neither one is worse. If you screw up your life, you screw up your life. What age you did it doesn't make the screw up any more fixable.

My point was there is nothing a sixteen (or younger) old person can do that they can't do at any other age.
