Persephone713 Thank you. But my over all point is back up their opinion with a word that actually makes sense or describes her flaws. By definition, selfish doesn't describe her at all and I have proven that. It just doesn't fit her flaws at all. Impulsive does, but not selfish that is why I post the definition she never displays any of that. Selfish is a very negative word, Ariel is just not selfish by definition.

Jayden-G Nice to see you back. While she may not really be selfish, the way she handled her dream and getting to it may have been to some, and we never really see her do much that is selfless (but that can be said for all the other DPs as well). I just don't connect with her at all, and I do think she could have done things differently.

dclairmont Why is it so terrible if she's selfish? We all are, and Ariel definitely has moments of being selfish, and there's no problem with that. So do I, so do you, so do us all. Though, I don't think she's as selfish as people say, but she does have moments of being selfish. She also has moments of being selfless, such as saving Eric, so it balances out.

dclairmont I'm not trying to bash Ariel, or call her a bad person. I love Ariel. Rapunzel is my favorite princess, but I recognize that, yes, she is almost perfect. I think recognizing these things doesn't make our love less, but solidifies it.

princecatcher93 Everyone in their life as a selfish moment. All the princesses do. Tiana was selfish for putting her dream in front of what she wanted. Merida was selfish for putting her wants in front of her kingdom's safety (Think about if she didn't make peace at the end or marry someone there would have been a war). Rapunzel? Wanting to see the lights without really thinking about if she could get anyone hurt or killed (The dam breaking scene). Belle? She had a selfish moment when she picked her own well being over her father's when Gaston told her to marry him or see her dad get locked up (but she saved them by showing them the Beast). But in the end they all have a moment where they were like, "Look at all this crap that I made for everyone else". Selfish also means putting your wants or needs before others. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

( I may have had one or two selfish moments but that does not make me selfish-one mistake does not define a person) That's your guys problem-and you cant see it. Being selfish is very very bad. Think what you want, but Ariel is not selfish-she made impulsive decisions-but she was blinded by love and followed her heart, nothing selfish about that. Persephone713 And thank you Disneygirl7 for the compliment about how passionate I am about this subject and Ariel ( just like Ariel is very passionate and never gives up), she has meant the world to me since I have been old enough to walk. I was even born the year she came out -1989, and the Hollywood model for her ( Alyssa Milano) is who I am named after. I was on a junior swim team and my Highschool JV swim team ( so I am a swimmer and I love the ocean), and I am very idealistic like her. - Not that these things matter to anyone else but they are coincidences that make me feel like she is even more special to me. - I even have her tatooed on my inner right lower leg.

HaleyDewit You want proof that Ariel is not selfish? In The Little Mermaid 2 her daughter Melody wants to go live in the sea. Even though it was really hard for Ariel and Eric to let her go they understood that this was what she wanted. Could the people who think Ariel is selfish say what scenes formed that opinion? It's hard to make a case when you don't have al the information.

Persephone713 I guess some of what you said makes sense. I just have a very very different outlook on the word selfish, and do not see her as being selfish. I would use other words. Im a Cancer- a flaw of ours is stubbornness, and a positive trait is passion, so you put those together and I don't give up easily if I have a point. LOL. My mom is a Libra and we clash cause they just like to " let things go". Its me. I have said what I have wanted to. And I guess since I have the opinion that she isn't and you have the opinion that she is. Neither is fact. Im done don't worry, Im not writing another article. AudreyFreak Haley- one, that is a sequel. Disney has the bad habit of totally screwing up characters' personalities in sequels. Ariel is NOTHING like herself there. cruella I don't understand why you're saying somebody isn't a 'true' Ariel fan if they say she's selfish. I mean I'm a huge fan of Scrooge McDuck (he's my favorite animated hero) and I'd be the first to say he deffinetly has his share of selfish moments. Characters have flaws, that's what adds depth to them. I they didn't they be pretty boring.
