"Gay" is an inappropriate insult, considering it shouldn't be used as an insult as a whole for gay people.

Here comes the hate comments, but the way I see it, if someone uses a word, the only way it could be something bad or mean something offensive is if a person decides to take that meaning as offensive. Gay never used to mean something bad, only because people took it and made it something bad is it now considered inappropriate to say.

^ Agreed. I hate it when people use gay as an insult, as well as retarded and so on. It frankly doesn't even make sense, and it is infact hurting people, so why use it? You can't help being gay, and you can't help having a mental problem. The lack of respect these days just really ticks me off.

See, it is only a bad thing if it is taken that way. While I don't call anything "gar" or anyone a "fag," I still will not take it to heart if someone else does. 99% of people who use the term do not use it to refer to homosexuality. It is a common term that teenagers and adults (and even children) use without even thinking about what it means. If it were meant as homosexual slander than yes, but most of the time, it is a phrase used as a general insult. It is bad, but in reference to the question at hand, not completely applicable.

EDIT: actually when people call Edward "Gay" most of them mean "homosexual" rather than "stupid" so i guess it's kind of insulting. gay isn't a bad thing (at least in my opinion anyway)
