Болталка Вопрос

Do Ты think too many people claim to be "open-minded" but yet are still very opinionated and stubborn?

I've seen people like that. Many people act like they're good people because they fight for a good cause, but they can be extreme about their opinions (as in, "I'm right, and if Ты don't agree with me, you're wrong" kind of mindset) and rude and it's frankly quite stupid to see. They just make an жопа, попка of themselves and are unpleasant to be around.

Your thoughts?

Yea there are a bunch of people like that. Tbh probably a grand majority of people. :v

However I don't find that something that should be condemned too hard on. Sure it's kinda hypocritical on their part but everyone in the planet can be hypocritical a bunch of times even without even realizing it. So being hypocritical is something that should be preferably avoided, yet isn't impossible to completely avoid; that alone doesn't automatically make someone a 'bad person's. I guess it probably depends on which topic is in discussion. If it's about a reallly sensitive topic one has a very strong opinion on towards one side, it's kind of natural they see "the other side" as also being right {ex: abortion, death penalties, etc.}, and thus the whole "I'm right, you're wrong" mentality clouds сказал(-а) person's objectiveness even IF they are objective without bias in any other topic.
Like, I'm someone who would tries to be 'open-minded' towards many things yet am still stubborn and will defend my opinion on something I side in very strongly. Ofc I'd still try to hear out the reasons someone whose opinion is the complete opposite of mine instead of shutting them down but in the end, it wouldn't change what I stongly believe in. :L

tl;dr: It depends on the subject being debated in which 'open-mindedness' (<-- is that even a word?) can vary and it's honestly something natural everyone struggles to overcome.

It's fine. And I understand what Ты mean. I stick with my morals but try to see things from different perspectives.

The way my professor presented it along with the studies, it just seems that death penalty is еще negative than positive. Of course, there are prisons overcrowding. Probation, that is service before prison, seems to be the better option as its cost-effective and doesn't burden the prison population. However, usually murderers aren't the ones getting probation, its еще for lesser crimes like drug offenses and stuff.

Well, I can see where Ты got the influence for this one...

Ты seem like a good person. And Ты give good advice. I admit I can be extreme at times. For all that, I still want to do what's right and I'll always try.

Well, it was sort of you, but I just stopped and thought of all the people in life I've met like this. I've met worse, so you're still in rather clear waters.

I think it's fine as long as people are self-aware of their extreme nature. Like it's one thing to have an attitude of "I'm social justice and I'm right, and if Ты don't agree with me you're completely wrong." versus "I'm trying as many new ideas as possible but sometimes I get frustrated in heated conversations and I'll learn from my mistakes in time."

A lot of people in the latter category get misjudged and put in the former category. An open mind can take time to well, open, as long as its susceptible to it eventually. No one can be genuinely 'open to everything' overnight, but there's a certain honor and grace to those who try.

Depends on how Ты act and if you're a 'dick' about it, или not. I probably seemed that way when I first joined Болталка like 5 years назад - I know for a fact that I clashed with people and had arguments and whatnot. But, I learned from the things I did and said. I believe I was also the same on the Дебаты club, but I learned the better way to be open-minded towards people who don't necessarily agree with Ты on certain things.

We're always learning and expanding our knowledge base, so it really doesn't bother me, as long as people don't act the exact same way all of the time and continually remain ignorant and act like a wanker.

I've never met anyone who isn't opinionated или stubborn about something, nor have I met anyone that would call themselves close-minded. Everyone is like that to an extent.

What matters to me is whether или not a person can admit when they've been wrong and admit to it gracefully, even when they were so adamant that they were right before.
