Almost as soon as I was securely in my seat, the class room door opened and Mr. Varner, followed by Jasper and Thackery came into the room. I saw Thackery scan the room, and take in me and Ben in the middle of two Вампиры and one werewolf. His eyes narrowed as he saw me sitting Далее to Alice. I felt my tattoo burn as it usually does when my emotions are as strong as they are now. I squirmed a little but stopped when I saw Thackery, Ben, Alice, Jacob and Edward staring at me.
‘I wish Ты could teach me how to stop the burn,' I complained to everyone inside my head. All the others knew, yet even though Nate and I are full blood witches, it was harder for me to learn.
‘It just takes time Bella.’ Ben reassured me in a smug tone.
‘If it looks like she might Переместить a quarter of an inch towards you, I’m getting Ты out of here.’ He wasn’t even concentrating on my complaints; he was far too focused on the Вампиры and werewolf in the room. But his thoughts were so stern and fatherly, I burst out laughing. The whole class turned towards me, with confused expressions.
“Something amusing to Ты Ms. Swan?” Mr. Varner asked, in a grumbling voice. I tried to control my giggling as I heard Thai, Nate and Ben all laughing internally as well, while Thackery was swearing at us.
‘Ever heard of subtlety Bella?’ Thackery thought annoyed.
“N-n-not at all,” I сказал(-а) trying to control my voice, whilst throwing a teasingly glance at Thackery as I answered both questions. “I spelt something really easy wrong in my book and it looked funny.”
I am currently glad that since becoming a witch, my lying has improved.
‘Real smooth Bella.’
Edward’s head snapped up, just as Thackery thought that jibe. His eyes wide and probing. I looked to my right, and saw him staring back and forth between Thackery and me.
“D-d-did he just h-h-hear me?’ Thackery’s voice was shocked. No one was supposed to hear witches thoughts unless they were witches from their coven.
I glanced to my right again and saw Edward nod his head ever so slightly.
“Okay class.” Mr. Varner yelled, making me jump. “We have some new helpers in class for the rest of this year. This is Jasper Cullen, who graduated last год as some of Ты may know, and Thackery Danity, the new Teachers Aid’s. Now, we’ll continue with the assignment we were doing individually last week. Alice? Edward? Jacob? Ты guys were absent, so look over the context of it with your neighbors alright?”
I saw from my peripheral vision Alice smile a smug smile. My breathing was speeding up again.
‘Thackery…’ I begged urgently internally. I heard a gasp behind me; I turned and saw Edward staring at me, his jaw dropped.
I opened my mouth about to say something when a slamming noise in front of me snapped my head forward.
“Ms. лебедь is it?” Thackery was standing directly in front of me holding a very large text book. His eyes were warning me not to think anything.
“Y-y-yes sir?” I was scared that Edward heard me, and because Thackery made me nearly have a сердце attack.
“Would Ты be able to Показать me to the school library? I hear that Ты weren’t here last week to receive the book, and everyone else already has it, including the returning students.” He threw a polite smile at Alice, while her eyes narrowed at him in a truly frightening way.
“Um, sure, I guess. If it’s okay with Mr. Varner?” I asked, already knowing that answer would be yes.
“Of course, that’s fine. Just leave your assignment so Ms. Cullen can look it over.” Mr. Varner was absorbed in his newspaper, hardly paying attention to the rest of us.
“Thanks.” I muttered. I leaned to the left to pick up my book, when I felt my рубашка rise with the movement. I heard two gasps, as both Edward and Alice saw my tattoo, the branding of my skin, which showed me for what I am.
I sat up quickly, yanking my рубашка back in place as I flung the book at Alice.
“Er…thanks Bella.” She said, her voice still shocked.
“You welcome.” I mumbled as I got hurriedly to my feet, and practically flew from the classroom, with Thackery close on my heels.
I was still running, faster than usual in my fear.
‘How did he hear us?’ I was thinking; to scared to speak aloud.
“I don’t know…maybe…you know how our powers falter if we’re angry или upset?” he was looking at me waiting to answer so I just nodded.
“Well maybe that’s why. I was angry at Ты guys, so the power to protect our minds must have stopped. Then Ты got nervous about having to talk to Alice… that the same thing happened to you.”
I stopped running when we reached the library. That did make sense. In a way.
I heard someone coming behind us, so we both turned and saw Thai and Nate walking towards us briskly.
“Ben filled us in. What happened?” Nate’s voice concerned, but with an edge of anger in his tone.
“I’ll go get the book…” I said, shuffling towards the door. I didn’t want to hear the theory again. It didn’t seem real.
I walked in the doors, and went straight to the counter.
“Hi, um, I’m looking for the biology text book that was дана out last week? I wasn’t hear.” I had to speak a little louder than usual for the elderly Mrs. Torrens.
“Of course dear. It’s in the секунда aisle to the right, down the far end. And there’s no need to speak so loudly dear, I’m old, not deaf.” I smiled at her as she сказал(-а) this. Her mind was getting louder thanks to her agitation towards me.
“Thank-you.” I walked toward the back of the library, trying to find the right aisle. It took a while. Nothing was where she сказал(-а) it was. As I paced down the fourth aisle I caught the strong, sweet, delicious smell of a vampire.
I freezed.
I tried to identify the scent, but not having smelled them recently made it difficult. I breathed in more; I caught the strong woodsy scent of a werewolf.
What was this? Bring your mystical creature to school day?
I had to hurry, but keep my thoughts away from them. No need to have my brothers running in protecting me.
I’m stronger now than I’ve ever been. And it’s like Nate said…now I’m the super hero.
I took a deep breath and walked to the book that I needed. I picked it up, and turned back to the direction I came when I heard someone call my name.
“Bella?” it was a males voice. But I couldn’t pin point it.
All I knew is that it wasn’t my family.
I picked up the pace, trying to head back to the counter, but I got Остаться в живых in the massive stacks.
“Bella, stop!” the voice was louder this time. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Emmet and Sam following me.
I started moving faster, and with my speed, I grew еще silent and еще graceful. I could hear their astonishment behind me, as I made it through the maze of Книги and back to the counter.
“Here!” I thrust the book at Mrs. Torrens, as she glanced at me shocked at my sudden appearance.
I fidgeted while she scanned the book and signed it under my name. The door opened and Thackery flanked by Nate and Thai, they were still bantering from the conversation they were having outside, until, that is, they saw my face. I could hear the panic in their thoughts, and saw myself reflected in their thoughts. My face was ashen and pure white from stress and fear, my jade eyes were wide and my mouth was slightly open.
‘Bella, what’s wrong?’ Nate’s voice was the only one of their voices which registered in the chaotic confines of my head. Just as I was about to give them a run through, Emmet and Sam walked around the corner toward us. They stopped short when they saw my brothers. The bands of muscles on Emmet’s arms flexed, and Sam’s eyes narrowed, while Thackery glared at them, and Thai moved to his side. Nate moved conspicuously in front of me, positioning him in front of me.
“Here Ты go dear,” Mrs. Torrens voice made me jump.
I tore my eyes away from the boys surrounding me to look at the elderly woman. She was smiling at me, and I heard a faint tremor of her thoughts. She thought it was a lover’s quarrel between either Emmet или Sam. I tried to control the hysterics about to burst from my lips, when I heard a faint rumble of a growl. My eyes snapped вперед and I saw Emmet and Sam leaning вперед toward the others, I looked at my brothers and they had taunting smiles on their faces.
“Thank-you.” I tried to sound appreciative, but my thoughts were filled with a way to get Nate, Thai and Thackery out of here.
I moved away from Nate’s protective stance, toward Thackery.
“Let’s go.” I сказал(-а) in a tone which rang in finality.
When no-one moved, I grabbed Thackery’s arm tightly, making him look at me.
His eyes flickered from me to Emmet. He nodded once and started backing toward the door.
“Thai, Nate, lets go.” They both hesitated briefly but followed suit.
Thackery and I walked back to class in silence not even thinking any thing. Thackery held the door to the classroom open for me... an unusual action.
“Uh…thanks.” I сказал(-а) eyeing him suspiciously. He winked at me.
I went back to my seat, almost forgetting entirely who I was sitting Далее to.
“Hi Bella.” Alice сказал(-а) in her wind chime voice.
My body went rigid; I turned my head a fraction to the left to meet her cautious gaze. Suddenly my head was very crowded.
‘Just answer her. Don’t make it seem like a bad thing. Answer her questions, but don’t give anything to vital away.’ Nate; always the quick thinker. I could hear the others agreeing wit him, I tuned them out momentarily.
I turned to her and half-smiled.
“Hello Alice.”
She was thrilled that I was responding, I could see it in her eyes, the way they lit up like a child at Christmas.
“How are you?” the happiness in her voice was astounding, I never really comprehended how much Alice was my best friend.
I kept my tone pleasant; despite the fact I deliberated telling her everything that I am fighting so hard to protect. “Just fine and you?”
Her smile faltered, and a suspicion entered her eyes. Her gaze flickered to Edward, and her voice suddenly filled my head.
‘Is it just me, или does it seem like she’s forcing this?’
I glanced over at Edward and saw him appraising me curiously, before he’s shook his head slightly.
“I think she can’t say anything, not that she doesn’t want too.” He сказал(-а) this in an almost inaudible vibration of his lips, only the other 5 people in this room with super-sonic hearing could hear.
I looked over and saw him watching me again and I grinned at him.
‘I’m still your open book aren’t I, Edward?’
His draw dropped and appraised me with new eyes. I giggled and looked toward the front.
The rest of the class went pretty fast. We finished our assignments, and were taught about Asexual creatures and organisms. By the time the колокол, колокольчик, белл rang, I was up and out of the class room before either Alice, Jacob или Edward could look up. Spanish passed quickly with Jessica still babbling on and on about my new hair colour, saying how much she loved it on me, but little did she know, I could hear the jealousy raging in her thoughts at the fact that even еще guys find me attractive now. It doesn’t bother me. I’ve never been interested in any of the human males before…well, not usually. The Далее thing I knew it was lunch. I found out that Teachers aid’s have to sit in the cafeteria with students rather than the faculty lounge with teachers as it was teachers “alone” time. Pfft. Whatever. It was their time to swear at all the things students do which they hate. I got a mental note from Nate and Thai that they would save me a сиденье, место, сиденья at the cafeteria. I smiled as I walked, seeing that they were already there. I opened the door to the cafeteria and looked around for them, but they were sitting somewhere I couldn’t see. I started walking along on my tip toes, trying to see over people’s heads when I felt someone standing to close to me. I turned curiously, and instantly regretted it.
“Hey Bella!” Mike was even еще annoyingly attached to me now, so it was almost impossible to ditch him.
“Hi Mike.” I greeted him half-heartedly, trying to block out his thoughts, and hold back the bile of what I was doing in them. Mike looked over my shoulder at something behind and put his hand on my shoulder.
“Hey are Ты okay?” he said, his voice layered with concern.
His Вопрос confused me. “Um, yes, why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because Cullen’s back. I thought that maybe this would be awkward for you, but…” he trailed off awkwardly. I looked over my shoulder and there, sure enough, was Edward and his family watching me.
But finally, my salvation appeared.
“Hey Bells, we saved Ты a сиденье, место, сиденья over here.” Thai came over and put his arm around m shoulders, tugging me slightly away from Mike.
I smiled and shook my head; always the protective one.
“See ya Mike.” I waved as Thai pulled me in the opposite direction I was originally going.
“See ya…” he muttered glumly.
‘Thanks’ I thought thankfully.
‘It wasn’t for your benefit, we just didn’t want tot see what he was thinking anymore,’ he looked at me from the corner of his eye and grinned impishly at me. ‘I didn’t know Ты were that flexible.’ I heard the laughter of Nate and Thackery , and I punched Thai in the ribs and had the satisfaction of seeing him get winded.
We had reached the таблица then, and took our seats. Nate had already eaten his food, as had Nate and Thackery. There was a slice of пицца and an яблоко left on the table.
“Thanks for saving me some guys, really, from the bottom of my heart.” My voice was thick with sarcasm. Ever since I became “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, my little nickname from my brothers, my appetite had grown consistently, yet the fact that I am constantly shrinking, means I never gain a pound, it’s just annoying really. They laughed again at my thoughts, when the laughter suddenly died, getting replaced by preparedness; they all turned to the direction behind me, so I turned and saw Emmet and Sam coming towards the table. I felt the hairs on my neck stand up, as the fear took over.
They reached the таблица in a matter of seconds.
“Can we talk to Ты please Bella?” I think I knew the reason Sam was talking not Emmet. Emmet equals brawn, Sam equals mouth-piece.
I froze and stared at the uncomprehendingly.
The others sat still, not even breathing, until that is Emmet put his hand on my shoulder in a clear representation that everything is okay. Nate’s outraged roar filled the cafeteria, as did Thai’s and Thackery’s, I could hear Ben running at full speed towards the cafeteria.
‘Ben, we have to freeze the room.’ I thought frantically.
‘Your gonna have to do it yourself Bella, Ты can do it, just concentrate!” I nodded to myself and concentrated on only the immortal- или semi-immortal- people in the room and the surroundings froze. I felt wetness on my nose, and noticed that half the breathing disappeared around me. I opened my eyes and brushed at the wetness. I looked down at the blood on my fingers, and up into the eyes of the suddenly very dangerous vampires.
