Well let's see, they were child hood friends at school, and she thought he was gay, and he thought they were just friends so they didn't get together until Amy's daughter, Melody, or River, who was in a weird time zone thingy was their school friend and hooked them up, knowing they were her mother and father, so that's how they got together, and yeah.
