Senato’s body was consumed by pain through Tomoyo’s kido, it was pushing him to his limit, but he knew two things: he had to buy the others more time to escape and he would not allow himself to be defeated by someone with such apologetic eyes.
Senato: <I need to get this fire off of me and start moving, fast. There’s only one way I can get this off…> (He lowered his head) Tenku no tate…
His few struggled words caught Tomoyo’s attention. She noticed his entire body seem to become crystalline, then with the sound of breaking glass, the crystal shell shattered, flying off of Senato’s body taking the blue flames with them. He rose from the ground, the top half of his robe now completely ripped apart, revealing his chest, covered in scars seeming like old stab wounds.
Senato: (He was out of breath. Tomoyo’s modified Soukatsui had put a large amount of strain on his body, though there were no actual injuries caused, so he was recovering fast) To think you would push me to use my back-up defence so early in our fight…
Tomoyo: (She stopped her chanting. With Senato now free from her crippling pain, he would easily be able to escape her Rikujokuro, even if he is out of breath) your determination and resourcefulness is commendable, not many captains would have a defence technique covering their bodies as a back-up. Judging by the fact that you only used it now, I can safely assume that it is a one-time technique, correct?
Senato: Your assumption is correct, I’m afraid. That technique is nicknamed my “second chance” a final defence, able to deflect away a single fatal attack, in order to allow a counter-attack… <Though in this case, I cannot strike at her, I’ll have to fight more passively, I don’t know just how much modified kido she has at her disposal…>
Tomoyo: If it is your final defence in order to preserve your life, then why did you use it now, the Soukatsui was not life threatening, you would have survived.
Senato: This isn’t a case of my survival. I simply have to stop you here and now, nothing more and nothing less.
Tomoyo: (Her eyes drifted to the multiple scars covering Senato’s chest, they were obviously old injuries as they had completely healed as part of the skin…> may I ask about those scars on your chest?
Senato: These are old scars, from when I was a human. (His voice seemed sad, an obviously horrible memory)
Tomoyo: I see, they were carved into your very soul. That’s why the scars never completely disappeared… It must have been quite painful… <No wonder he was able to stay conscious through my previous Soukatsui, wounds like that could only result in a death which must have been excruciatingly painful and also extremely traumatic. That explains his hatred towards fighting, but not why he is so protective of his allies…>
Tomoyo’s eyes showed nothing but sympathy towards Senato, he could not stand having to fight someone like this, someone whom he bears no grudge against, someone so kind… He suddenly snapped out of his thoughts, reminding himself that he was in a battle, whether he liked it or not. This person was his enemy and he has to defend his comrades.
Senato: Hitosuji no Hikari! (5 Stars pulled into formation above Tomoyo and fired down onto her, she deflected it with ease) <I’ll keep at least 4 stars beside me at all times for defence, the remaining stars I’ll use to keep distance between the two of us, like this I should be able to have a good eye on her and anything she does, but I’ll need to keep awareness all around me, I have yet to see how far her kido can go, and how much she can manipulate it… Distance and awareness, that’s all this comes down to…>
He began firing off beams of light and a few weak kido, trying to keep his distance and delay her mission, Tomoyo easily deflected beam after beam and spell after spell, though she did not move from her spot, this worried Senato, what was she planning? If anything it would be dangerous for him to say the least.
Senato: <I won’t let her do anything> Hado 33 Soukatsui!
Tomoyo moved her defensive magic circles to face Senato, but saw no spell. She turned to see the spell being simultaneously casted from 2 stars, to her left and right. Unable to defend against both at the same time, she was forced to dodge, both attacks barely missing her.
Senato: <She doesn’t seem to move fast, does that mean her weakness is fast paced close combat? Or does it mean that she is so skilled in kido that she doesn’t have to be fast?>
Tomoyo: I see, so you are able to transmit spells to your stars, allowing you to fire them from essentially any location. I assume there is a small object on or near your hands which allows you to transmit and multiply them?
Senato: Close, but not quite right. Your first deduction is spot on, but the second… sounds more like something I’d expect a scientist to say, not a kido user…
Tomoyo: Ah, so the stars are connected to you through a form of kido, making them essentially extended parts of your body…
Senato said nothing, simply smiling before firing off multiple beams again. Tomoyo redirected her shield, blocking all the beams. Senato continued to fire off beam after beam, with unrelenting force. The entire inside of the building was being torn apart and reduced to mere rubble. After collapsing most of the building, Senato’s attack had ended. The air was filled with smoke and dust from the rubble. Tomoyo suddenly sensed Senato’s reiatsu. She fired a spell at it, only to see that the reiatsu she was sensing was being emitted from one of his stars.
Tomoyo: <Using the dust and rubble to hide your physical presence and focusing large amounts of reiatsu at each of your stars to make me unable to sense you, such a diversion would only last 5 minutes before the dust would clear, under normal circumstances that is> Hado 58 Tenran!
The air flowed powerfully around Tomoyo blasting all the dust away from the area, revealing Senato, whom had pulled his stars to create a rectangular barrier around his body in order to protect himself from the spell. As the spell was completed he emerged from his barrier.
Tomoyo: As a strategist, I didn’t think you would resort to such simple tricks… <He must have had some reason behind it, besides delaying me…>
Senato: <So she can cast her kido over large areas as well, that information will help to plan a counter attack later, the real fight will start soon, Shiho should have evacuated most of squad 4 and the injured by now…> (He sighed as he shook his head seemingly disappointed) I had hoped it would take you longer to figure out my trick…
With few words Senato and Tomoyo continued their battle, both silently wishing that they did not have to do this. The bright flashes and loud explosions were easy to hear throughout most of Seireitei.
